About
Finding a great steakhouse in a new city takes more work than it should. Google gives you plenty of options, “best of” lists often repeat the same names, and thousands of five-star reviews don’t necessarily tell you where the truly great steaks are made. Figuring that out means digging into menus, sourcing, aging and cooking methods—and separating a popular restaurant from a place worth seeking out for its beef.
I’m Corey, born and raised in Montreal, and I’ve spent years doing exactly that. From my days as a hockey scout to my current role as a financial technology executive, work has taken me across North America. Every new city has brought the same question: where should I go for a great steak?
What started as an appetite became an interest in everything behind the plate: cattle breeds, farms, feeding, different cuts, dry aging and the fire that brings it all together. I’ve probably spent more time researching dinner than most people spend eating it. It’s left me with high standards…and high cholesterol.
The High Steaks brings that research together with my own dining experiences in one place. I’ve personally eaten at a number of the restaurants featured here; others have earned their place through detailed research into their beef programs, menus and reputations. Every rating reflects my assessment, using the same standards across cities.
Friends, family and colleagues have long asked me where to eat when they travel. This guide is my answer, expanded into the resource I always wanted: one trusted place to find steakhouses worth your time, understand what makes them different, and choose your next great meal without starting the investigation from scratch.
